How does debt affect children?
Our new joint report, The Debt Trap: Exposing the impact of problem debt on children, revealed that children in families with problem debt are more likely to be bullied, feel anxious and miss out on essentials as their parents struggle with repayments.
We want to end the damage debt is having on children. But to make that happen, we need to lift a lid on this issue and help people understand how debt is ruining millions of young lives. That’s why we decided to hold a question and answer session about our report findings on Twitter.
Taking questions were report authors Sam Royston from The Children’s Society and Joseph Surtees from StepChange. We compiled in Storify questions people asked, and Sam and Joe's responses.
Please watch and share our video, which features a child speaking about the devastating effects debt had on her and her family.
