Introducing the makers of The Kids' Zone

24 May 2011

We have recently launched a new and improved version of The Kids’ Zone website. Developing this site has been a massive project for The Children's Society and we couldn't have done it without the help and ideas of young people.

We believe in involving young people in all areas of our work by creating and promoting positive opportunities for young people of all ages and abilities.

Throughout the redevelopment we have worked closely with a core group of young people who are representative of the site’s target audience.

There have been many young people involved along the way, but four young people, Abbie, Alex, Gemma and Perry in particular, have been very committed and have been involved since May 2009.

Their involvement has included:
·    idea development focus groups
·    interviewing agencies
·    wireframe testing
·    flat design testing and feedback
·    attending review meetings
·    content development and planning
·    presenting on their work to other young people
·    making a short film about their experiences

Check out the video below to see what the young people did for their website and their experiences along the way.

Their feedback and participation has been invaluable throughout.  As a result of their input, there is a dedicated area for user-generated content with images, poetry, stories and videos; a ‘help’ section with clear signposting to appropriate services and resources; information about The Children’s Society and our work; a fun and games section which will also include quizzes and polls so young people can get involved and express their opinions, and a regularly updated news section.
