Ellen is the Director of Policy at The Children’s Society where she leads on the organisation’s policy and public affairs work. She has been with The Children’s Society for two years and is responsible for developing and implementing an effective influencing programme locally and nationally. Ellen acts as a spokesperson for the organisation, both in the media and at public events.
Ellen instigated a joint All-Party Parliamentary Group inquiry into children going missing from care, which received widespread media coverage and resulted in the government taking swift and comprehensive action to tackle the failures of child protection systems. She also played a key role in securing significant concessions to the Welfare Reform Bill to ensure that the reforms met the needs of children and led on the Fair and Square campaign, which aims to make sure all children in poverty get a free school meal.
Ellen has also worked for a number of years at the National Autistic Society, where she steered a Private Member’s Bill through Parliament – the Autism Act – the first ever disability specific legislation. She has also worked in the private sector for Hill & Knowlton and in Parliament.
