Enver Solomon
Policy Director
Enver Solomon has played in a senior role in a number of well respected voluntary sector organisations. Prior to joining the Children’s Society he was assistant director of policy and research at Barnardo’s where he led on youth justice, children in care, safeguarding, child sexual exploitation and youth support. He played a pivotal role in Barnardo’s influencing the debate on early intervention and calling for a pro active use of care for children at risk.
Enver has an established track record in social policy and criminal justice policy. Before working at Barnardo’s he was deputy director of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies (CCJS), an independent charity that was then affiliated to the Law School at King’s College. During his time at the Centre Enver led on the production of a number of influential reports that had a direct impact on policy making and public thinking on criminal justice, including a major analysis of the youth justice system in England and Wales. He also edited the quarterly magazine, Criminal Justice Matters, and contributed to the King’s Masters programme in Criminology.
Before joining CCJS Enver was head of research and policy at the Revolving Doors Agency, a national charity providing services for offenders with mental health problems. He has also worked for the Prison Reform Trust. His areas of speciality include youth justice, children in care, sexual exploitation and safeguarding. He has authored a range of publications and edited two books for Policy Press both on youth justice and youth support. Before working in criminal justice Enver was a BBC journalist for nearly ten years.
Enver has co-authored a book, Effective safeguarding for children and young people, which was published in February 2012.
