Statement on Barnardo's 'Childhood Matters' Conference
19 March 2007
As the tragic death of yet another child on the streets of London is reported and the climate of fear surrounding young people continues to grow, Barnardo's 'Childhood Matters' conference offers a timely opportunity to reflect on why we are failing our children so badly.
However, while it is important that these issues are being so widely debated, it is crucial that this discussion results in real improvement in the lives of our children.
This is why The Children's Society has launched the UK's first independent inquiry into childhood in the UK. The Good Childhood Inquiry will move beyond the current debate by presenting recommendations, based on hard evidence, which will ensure that every child experiences the good childhood they deserve."
