Rula Roughs It For Children

25 July 2006

Actress Rula Lenska is leaving London behind to trek across northern India for The Children's Society in May 2007 and help raise essential funds for the charity's work.

The flame-haired actress, who shot to fame as one of the original Rock Follies, is a Buddhist and keen supporter of The Children's Society. Trek India will take Rula on a spiritual journey to Dharamsala, the home of India's exiled Tibetan community and up the foothills of the Himalayas.

Rula, a celebrity Big Brother housemate and real life Polish Countess, said: "I'm 60 years young (!) next year and wanted to do something spiritual, adventurous and meaningful. The Children's Society does remarkable work with the most vulnerable children. I can play my part by trekking across India and raising money for the charity.

"I've even quit smoking for my Trek India and I'm looking forward to visiting the Tibetan village. The prospect of meeting His Holiness, the Dalai Lama makes it all the more exciting. I can't wait and I hope many people will join me on this trip of a lifetime."

During the 10-day trek, participants will get to visit remote villages, climb up the foothills of the Himalayas and visit the famous Taj Mahal and Red Fort in New Delhi. Money raised will go towards helping some of the most vulnerable and isolated children in our country.
