Hear Me Roar- Young refugees share their views with UK media in new three year initiative
14 December 2006
The Children's Society is working with the Big Lottery Fund to create a Young Refugees' Media Project. Offering communication and media training to young refugees and asylum seekers between 16 and 21, the project aims to encourage them to get involved in the public debate about the issues that concern them.
In a climate where the mainstream media often fails to address these issues in a sympathetic, fair or even balanced way, it is increasingly important that asylum seekers and refugees, themselves, develop skills to negotiate with those who provide the services they need and the confidence to tell the public about their reality.
