Emmerdale's John Middleton returned safely back to the UK on Friday having spent 10 days trekking through Costa Rica for The Children's Society.
John joined up with a group of other hardened trekkers as they journeyed across Mount Irazu - the highest volcano in Costa Rica - through the Tapanti Forest Reserve and onto the Pacific Coast Belt where everyone settled in Manuel Antonio for some well deserved r and r. Although tough at times John agreed it was an experience of a lifetime.
"It was an amazing experience! Absolutely fantastic - and lots of first... the first time I've swum in the Pacific Ocean; the first time I've been in an Equatorial rainforest; the first time I've woken in the morning to hear Monkeys in the trees...!!
Costa Rica itself is a very friendly place. The Costa Ricans have a greeting Pura Vida which means pure life, have a good life. Everywhere we went we were welcomed with cries of Pura Vida - and you knew they really meant it.
I made some good friends on the trek. If you are looking for a new challenge and a chance to meet new people then give a trek a go...Pura Vida!
