John Nash, Director of Children's Services for Weymouth and Portland, visited the Waves programme on Friday 25 March to find out first-hand about The Children's Society's with young people in the area.
Programme manager Roy Koerner introduced Mr Nash to staff and families at the project. He heard, for example, from a mother whose son refused to attend school after he was bullied. His physical and mental health deteriorated and he became uncommunicative.
After six weeks of taking part in the Waves programme he made incredible progress and became more like his former self.
Although the local authority has cut funding to the Waves project, The Children's Society is exploring other ways to deliver these services to young people and their families in Dorset.
