Video: 'If someone donated £100 I would spend the afternoon making tea'

Matthew Phelan, director of 4Ps Marketing writes today about volunteering at one of our shops.

I feel really inspired following my recent afternoon volunteering at The Children’s Society shop in West Hampstead. This opportunity came to life because two members of the 4Ps team ran the London Marathon last year in aid of The Children’s Society, raising £3800. Looking for interesting fundraising initiatives, I said if someone donated £100 I would spend the afternoon making tea at one of your stores.

So, together with the shop's staff, I spent a sunny afternoon serving plentiful cups of tea and delicious cakes to people who stopped by for a chat. Talking to the customers gave me the opportunity to speak about volunteering with the charity and also raise awareness of the fantastic work you do to help children.

It was really interesting to discover what people loved about your charity. One lady said, 'It's wonderful that they work so hard to help children who live in poverty'.

What you can do

Find the multiple ways you can get involved with our work.

We’ve been working with The Children’s Society for more than four years and are dedicated to integrating ourselves with our clients to better understand the work you do. So impassioned was I from the time in-store that I have written an open letter to our management board to propose all our staff at 4Ps spend half a day per year helping with a charitable cause or local initiative. There has already been great feedback from the team at 4Ps with ideas of who they would like to volunteer with.

I’d like to thank all the staff at The Children’s Society for a brilliant afternoon and especially Louise who ensured my tea skills were up to scratch. I look forward to the next event.
