Sharing young carers' experiences during Carers Week, and how you can join in

We're nearing the end of Carers Week, a UK-wide annual campaign to improve the lives of carers and the people they care for. It's built upon a set of goals we strongly support.

For years we have advocated for and helped the thousands of young carers across England. Currently we’re supporting Young Carers in Focus (YCiF), an exciting opportunity for young carers to feel empowered and supported to have a voice with a wider audience. If you’re a young carer or know one, please have a look at the site.

This week we have run some great stories by young carers, including:

  • Abby's story (and song) about how caring for an ill mum inspired her to embark on a music career
  • Sindi shares her experience of growing up as a young carer and how, in the face of adversity, she is now embarking on an exciting career path
  • Rob describes a Young Carers in Focus training session where he gains video production skills ans sees hints at the magnitude of issues young carers face

If you haven't read Abby's, Sindi's and Rob's stories, please do take a look - they're terrific pieces.

Infographic, report and more stories by young carers

When young people take on inappropriate levels of caring the negative impacts on young carers can be wide ranging, severe and enduring.

To learn more, have a look at our infographic about young carers’ issues, or read about our new report, Hidden from View: Experiences of young carers in England.

The Young Carers in Focus website contains a wealth of videos, blogs and photographs by and for young carers. If you haven't seen the site, please take a look. If you know a young carer, or are a young carers, visit the site to see how you can get involved.
