'A challenge I entered with more enthusiasm and hope than logic'

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 was a challenge I entered with more enthusiasm and hope than logic. I’m not a cyclist and until a few months ago the furthest I’d cycled was to the shops.

To cycle 100 miles was a challenge that some would consider at the least inadvisable and others (some of my friends included – as they told me afterwards) thought totally ludicrous!

But, two months of training later, at 6.42am on 4 August, in my purple The Children’s Society lycra, there I was on the start line in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
