Congratulations to David Warren, volunteer with our Salford Children’s Rights Service, on receiving an award in this year's Heart of Salford awards.

David received the Employed Volunteer Award in recognition of his 11 years spending time as an independent visitor. He currently supports a young man, Tom, who is in care and lives in a children’s home. David is a steady friend to him, taking him to the movies, ten-pin bowling and places Tom might never get the chance to go.

David also works long shifts as a full-time hospital nurse.

'We are proud to work with David'

Jackie McGrath, Independent Visitor Coordinator at Salford Children’s Rights Service, nominated David for the award.

She said: 'David has given Tom the stability that young people in care so desperately need by being there for him in times of difficulty. David is an example and a credit to the service and we are proud to work with him.'

The Heart of Salford Awards are organised by Salford CVS (community and voluntary services) to celebrate the role that volunteering plays in the city.
