What’s it all about?

100,000 kids run away from home or care every year. The Children’s Society helps these children, finding them somewhere safe to stay and someone to talk to. We are raising money to help these young people by making a giant scarf, 100,000cm or one kilometre (1000m) long so that every centimetre represents one child. It is going to be made of 20cm wide strips of knitting sent to The Children’s Society and sewn together into a very long scarf!
Want to get involved?
Have you learnt to knit at school or could someone in your family teach you? You can raise money to help the kids that run away by getting sponsored to knit a section of the scarf.
Why take part?
Knitting is good fun and once you get going is really easy. You could challenge your friends to see who could knit the furthest!
Where’s it happening?
In your bedroom, your house, at school? You don’t have to go very far to knit – just as far as your sofa!
