Exmouth and District Children's Centre
Location
Centre manager: Rachel Loram
Exmouth and District Children's Centre began to deliver services in April 2007. Our children's centre is based at two sites – one at Moorfield Road, next to Marpool Primary School, and one at Egremont Road as part of Exeter Road Primary School.
We have 10 core staff members and a team of 11 sessional workers who are used on a regular basis to run universal sessions at both centres and within the wider community. The children's centres have a very busy programme with activities spanning across the week.
Families can come to us for support and advice on any aspect of family life and get information on matters such as child development, parenting, and advice on how to stay safe and healthy.
We offer a range of universal and targeted services including antenatal services, parenting programmes, one-to-one family support service, counselling, physical activity sessions, baby massage, speech and language therapy clinics and groups, and a comprehensive breastfeeding support programme. The children who use the two children's centres come from families who live in Exmouth and the surrounding villages and beyond.
They are from a wide range of backgrounds, ethnicities and family structures, and any family with a child under five is welcome to use our services. Our two children's centres work closely with a range of agencies including the Public Health Team, Social Care, Speech and Language Therapy, Portage and a range of local organisations, such as Home Start to provide a comprehensive service to families living in our reach area.
Volunteering
This legacy report has been produced to celebrate the impact of the Devon and Somerset Children's Centres’ Volunteering Scheme. Thanks to funding by the Department of Health, this project has changed the way The Children’s Society in Devon and Somerset has involved volunteers in its children’s centres. Although the funding has now ended, the children's centres will continue to use volunteers as we are very clear as to the benefits they bring to our work with children and their families.
