Environmental policy
In the course of our work The Children's Society interacts with the environment via the use of resources such as energy and water and the generation of waste. We are committed to reducing our impact on the environment and we will:
- Comply with all relevant legal requirements and where possible exceed these,
- Reduce and prevent both waste and depletion of resources where practicable,
- Continue to recycle wastes wherever practicable,
- Reduce energy and water consumption where practicable,
- Encourage staff to use public transport by way of staff loans for season tickets, and provide bike sheds and shower facilities for bicycle users,
- Establish and implement a sustainable procurement policy to identify, reduce or even eliminate negative environmental and social impacts when making purchasing decisions,
- Promote and communicate environmental awareness among employees through induction, appropriate training and staff meetings,
- Make the environmental policy available to external stakeholders and interested parties on our website or upon request.
We are participating in the Green Mark Award Scheme and we will monitor key parameters of the policy to demonstrate continuous environmental improvements.
We will review the environmental policy annually, or more frequently if the nature of scale of the organisation changes, to ensure that it remains appropriate.
