Speaking and transforming

To seek to transform the unjust structures of society

'Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.' Proverbs 31:7-9

If it is to be true to the Kingdom programme, The Children's Society must challenge society as a whole to embrace social justice.  We work to transform individuals, through whom society and creation itself are renewed and transformed.

Over the years, what has remained constant is the large number of churches and individuals in congregations that are committed to supporting our work with the most isolated and rejected children and young people. This commitment is an active reflection of faith and shared mission, because we believe the gospel requires us to create a society in which God's justice for children and young people is made evident as a sign of his Kingdom.

We work on key policy changes and inform solutions through sound research.  Our supporters and staff campaign to bring about change in the way children and young people experience childhood in the UK.

The Children’s Society sees its commitment to social justice, including its campaigning and direct work with children and young people, as being part of God’s loving initiative in contemporary society.  Whilst our work is centered upon children we understand this as part of a greater reordering of society to conform to the values of the Kingdom of God. So we not only attempt to address the needs of individual children and young people but also campaign to have their needs met by society at large. In transforming society we aim to transform the behaviours of general public, to prevent the cause of disadvantage for children and young people and to address the root of the problem.

What you can do....

By becoming a speaker volunteer or by joining us as a campaigner, you can help us to transform society to ensure good childhood for all children.
