Edward Rudolf Lecture:
You are invited to The Children's Society’s Annual Edward Rudolf Lecture, on Thursday 25 September 2008.
Looking for Childhood: The Struggles of Children in Britain will be co-presented by Bob Reitemeier (Chief Executive of The Children's Society) with Camilla Batmanghelidjh, Founder and Director of Kids Company.
The lecture, followed by an informal reception with refreshments, will take place at Church House Conference Centre, London, SW1 and will run approximately 6-9pm.
The Good Childhood Inquiry is the UK's first independent national inquiry into childhood and is an inclusive debate on what makes for a good childhood today that will shape future policy and inspire all our relationships with children. Early next year, the inquiry will make recommendations to improve the way in which childhood is experienced and understood in the UK today. This is an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to the debate around The Good Childhood Inquiry and help shape childhood in the future.
2007 Annual Festival
A celebration of our work with the Church
Up to 500 supporters, trustees, children and young people joined us for this year’s Annual Festival of Thanksgiving and Rededication at the end of September 2007 at Liverpool Cathedral, St James Mount.
It was a fun-filled, packed day of celebrations that was hugely enjoyed by everyone involved. We had presentations and workshops by children and young people from our projects profiling some of the difficulties they face on a daily basis; music, dance and drumming activities; a Fashion Show and awards to both children and young people and our Star Volunteers recognising their outstanding achievements and contributions.
The Cathedral was decorated with Banners that celebrated ‘a good childhood?’ from schools and community groups in the Diocese along with the photographic exhibition of ‘When I Grow up’
The whole day was completed with our Service of Thanksgiving and Rededication. Lead by the Acting Dean of the Cathedral The Reverend Canon Andrew Hawley, The Rt Revd David Jennings, The Bishop of Warrington and Bishop Tim Stephens our Chair of Trustee’s and joined by the Kinder Children’s Choir of the High Peaks, we celebrated the work we are doing and sought God’s strength and courage for the challenges that lie ahead.
