Letter from The Rt Revd Bishop Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester and Chair of our Board of Trustees
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to introduce you to this section of The Children's Society's website.
For over 125 years The Church of England has had a very close and supportive relationship with The Children's Society. Since those early days, the work has changed enormously to reflect the very differing needs of children and young people in our society. What has remained constant is the large number of churches and individuals in congregations that are committed to supporting work with the most isolated and rejected children and young people of the day. This commitment is an active reflection of our faith and shared mission, because we believe the gospel requires us to create a society in which God's justice for children and young people is made evident as a sign of his kingdom.
The Children's Society's work has developed not only through financial contributions from supporters but also from individuals who give of their time and talents through volunteer speaking engagements, joining our collective voice in campaigning initiatives or working alongside us directly with children and young people. We particularly value those of all ages, who pray regularly for The Children's Society and for the children and young people we work with.
Through these web pages we aim to provide resources for you and your church. We hope they will provide information on our work for sharing with others, worship resources that support in ministry with the children and young people in your community, prayers and news on events and joint ventures in partnership with the Church of England.
The Children's Society is committed to tackling the situations that lead to so much unhappiness and suffering. We are committed to facing up to, to talking about and finding solutions for those children over-looked, rejected and ignored and we believe that every child has the right to a good childhood. Please take time to look around this site and think about how you might continue to understand the situations faced by many of our young people today and to make your invaluable contribution to our response.
Yours in Christ
Tim Stevens
Chair of the Board of Trustees
