Key topics for the call for evidence

We would welcome any evidence and views relevant to the topic of the Commission. Some of the key issues which contributors may wish to focus on are the following:

The links between fathers' involvement with children and children's well-being:

  1. To what extent, and in what ways, are fathers important to children's well-being?
  2. In what circumstances may fathers' involvement in children’s lives be detrimental to children's well-being?
  3. In what circumstances may fathers' involvement in children's lives have unclear or mixed effects on children's well-being?
  4. To what extent, and in what ways, is the lack of involvement of fathers detrimental to children's well-being?

Challenges and solutions

  1. Thinking about circumstances in which fathers' involvement is generally beneficial to children's well-being:
  • What are the main obstacles to fathers' involvement in children's lives?
  • What can be done to overcome these obstacles? (We would welcome suggestions for overcoming obstacles and also examples of solutions or interventions which have been found to be effective)

     2. Thinking about circumstances in which where fathers' involvement in children's lives may have unclear or detrimental effects on children's well-being:

  • What can be done to tackle these circumstances so that fathers’ involvement may have a more positive impact?
Thinking about circumstances in which fathers are not currently involved in their children's lives
  • What can be done to promote the involvement of fathers who are currently not involved in their children's lives in ways which are beneficial to children’s well-being?

Any other comments
