The project gives children and young people in Torbay the opportunity to express their views and make a difference. We support and encourage them to make decisions. This includes training for the young people and working with other agencies to ensure the voices of young people are heard.
The project uses non-traditional, creative ways to engage with children and young people, particularly those that others find hard to reach. This gives them the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the community and improves the way we as adults work with young people.
With our help, young people have made decisions about: how money is spent on services and projects for young people; recruiting people who work with them; and issues that affect their lives
Some initiatives include:
- TOFFY, a group of 16 young people aged 13-19, has made decisions about how to spend more than £200,000 on projects for other young people
- Young people from St Cuthbert Mayne School were involved in the interviews for the assistant director for children’s services
- Young people co-ordinated a project that sought the views of more than 200 young people on what they thought about anti-social behaviour and crime, and produced a report called Fed Up with Being Called a Yob!
