Right Track aims to reduce the causes and effects of social injustice, including discrimination, for black* and minority ethnic children and young people. In particular, to reduce their over-representation in the youth justice system. The services offered are:
· Advice and information about the youth justice system.
· Individual work with black and minority ethnic young people who are at risk of involvement, or who are already involved, in the youth justice system.
· Work with black and minority ethnic young people on orders to assist them to avoid offending
· Recruitment and training of volunteer mentors to act as positive role models.
· Assistance in making complaints with regard to the youth justice system, schools and social services
· Challenging inequality in the treatment of black and minority ethnic young people in the youth justice system.
· Support for parents and carers of black and minority ethnic young people
The project is involved in research into the effects of the youth justice system on black and minority ethnic young people. We network with statutory and voluntary agencies that also work with young people.
The project operates on the basis of equal opportunities and will actively promote culturally sensitive work with young black and minority ethnic young people to aid their development and to provide them with alternatives to crime.
*By “black” we mean all people who are discriminated against due the colour of their skin.
