Essex Young people’s Drug and Alcohol Service – or EYPDAS - works with young people up to the age of 19 across Essex who are affected by substance use - either their own or their significant other’s. We provide advice, support and information alongside a range of services.

We are there primarily to support young people and to keep them safe from harm while they work through their problems. We provide a confidential service and a telephone helpline during office hours and also support families to enable them to deal with their child’s substance use.

Our assessment and counselling team takes referrals from young people directly, from family members (as long as the young person has consented to be seen) or from professionals. We see the young people where they feel most comfortable, be it McDonald’s, at home or in school. We work with them to look at the risks they are taking and support them to make their own choices and decisions.

We also have an outreach team who carry out drug and alcohol workshops, raise awareness of the issues of drugs and alcohol, and promote our work.

We work with young people within the criminal justice systems, providing one-to-one support and education. In addition, we have a substance misuse trainer whose provides training to anyone in Essex who works with young people.
