Young People's Substance Misuse Forum
Essex Young People's Substance Misuse Forum is a consultation group that helps EYPDAS make decisions about service delivery, policies and procedures. Meeting several times throughout the year the group is made up of service users who wish to make an impact on the services EYPDAS provides.
Over the past 3 years the Forum has gone from strength to strength and the young people continue to meet monthly with a core number of staff facilitating the sessions and supporting the young people who attend.
- In November 2007 the young people planned and facilitated a workshop around “Perceptions of Young People & Substance Misuse” at a joint Children & Young People’s Strategic Partnership and Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership event in the Braintree Locality. This was attended by at least three hundred professionals and the young people planned and delivered their workshop to Police, Social Care & Connexions staff.
- The young people have also written a proposal, gained funding for, written and produced a short film that is now being used as a training tool with young people around the effects of drugs and alcohol and the impact that they can have. This has been professionally produced and was launched in August 2008; this has been heavily supported and funded by both Essex Police and Essex Drug & Alcohol Action Team.
