Training
What we do
The Training Department develops and delivers a range of programmes for individuals, groups or organisations working with children, young people and adults who wish to develop a greater understanding of the problems associated with substance use and misuse.
How we do it
Each programme has been specifically designed to give professionals the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to a wide range of drug and alcohol issues.
‘I will now feel more confident talking to young people about their drug taking and more confident to talk about parental drug behaviour’
‘It was very empathetically presented, informal yet instructive and professionally delivered’
We offer in-house training, based in Chelmsford, or location based training programmes and seminars specifically designed to enable attendees to gain a greater understanding of drug and alcohol related issues, and how to resolve them. Training packages range from basic drug and alcohol awareness to more specialised sessions dependent on the needs of individual services.
More detailed programmes range from understanding the biological, psychological and social effects of drug and alcohol misuse, assessment and screening (linked to the Drug Use Screening Tool – DUST), working with young people, harm reduction, parental substance misuse, addiction and dependency, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder, the Common Assessment Framework and specific drug awareness.
Referrals
Training is available to anyone who works with, or has contact with, children, young people, adults and families across Essex. This includes, but is not exclusive to, youth services, social care, child and mental health services, foster carers, emergency services, adult services and health care services.
