Review of South Coast's Runaway's Initiative's Experience of Developing a Flexible Refuge in Torquay

This report describes a review of the experiences of South Coast Runaways Initiative (SCRI) of establishing a flexible refuge in Torquay after a successful bid to the DfES to establish a community-based refuge. This report addresses the concept of refuge and the different forms of refuge, providing a brief history of refuge provision in the UK. The main body of the report focuses upon the findings of the review, focusing upon: the strengths and weaknesses of refuge; the role of Registered Manager; identifying those factors that facilitated and hindered development of the flexible refuge; and how the flexible refuge meets local need and fits with existing services.

Responding to Young Runaways: An Evaluation of 19 Projects, 2003 - 2004

The Children and Young People's Unit (CYPU) commissioned a research team consisting of a partnership between The Children's Society and The University of York to evaluate practice-based work development projects to pilot a number of responses to running away. This report provides findings from this evaluation, which took a comparative approach, exploring which interventions were more effective with different sub-groups of the runaway population, to inform future development of work with this target group.

Living on the Edge: The Experiences of Detached Young Runaways

This research report describes the experiences of detached runaways who are away for four weeks or more and live outside key societal institutions and depend upon self-reliance and informal support networks. The report focuses upon the background of detached runaways, their experiences whilst away and ends with the identification of key themes and recommendations for both responsive and preventative measures to address the needs of detached runaways.
