Waves was initially established to provide a comprehensive advice and information service for young people in the Weymouth and Portland area.
Over the past 14 years, the services offered have considerably developed, and Waves is now seen as a trusted and valued resource in the professional arena.
The services are delivered from a three-storey building in Weymouth town centre, which is easily accessible for young people and their families. Two of our key areas of work are children and young people who are at risk on the streets and who are in trouble with the law.
In addition to the 'drop-in' advice and information service, referrals are also received from a number of other sources, such as Children's Services, CAMHS(Community and Mental Health Service), local schools and colleges, doctor's surgeries.
The Waves team is working within the emerging Common Assessment Framework, which will ensure the best possible use of resources and multi-agency co-operation.
Our comprehensive in house data collection tool, CHYMS, allows us to collect and monitor the process and impact of the services we deliver, which fits in with the national framework of Every Child Matters.
All our services are holistic. Family mediation and parenting make use of solution-focused therapy. Counselling uses client centred therapy and Human Givens, which promotes emotional health and clear thinking.
