Unity works alongside children and young people from across Trafford – although up to summer 2007 this has been solely Partington. We also work with young people in custody at Thorn Cross Young Offender Institution, near Warrington.
Previously we were called the Partington Family Centre. The name changed in August 2007, after an extensive consultation process with young people.
We believe Unity stands for everything we are trying to achieve: uniting children and young people and their families, and uniting communities. We work with young people who are already offending and those who are not. We do this by focusing on positives – enhancing their skills and building up protective factors. These increase the chance of better outcomes for all, and are therefore universally appropriate and non-stigmatising.
Project staff work within the emerging Common Assessment Framework to ensure the best possible use of resources and integrated working. Staff are well trained and experienced in safeguarding and child protection, and refer children and young people onto the most appropriate support where necessary.
Some of our outcomes are evidenced by the use of ONSET self-assessment questionnaires and the Rosenberg scale of self-esteem, with the help of the Children’s Society’s research unit.
To refer a child or young person onto a programme please contact Unity.
