The project was started as a joint agency initiative designed to build the capacities of children and young people to participate in local consultation and decision-making processes as well as the design and delivery of services they use.
The focus of the project is including children and young people who may be disadvantaged or excluded from having a say. We encourage and support young people to express their views and work with partner agencies that support young people to promote greater involvement in decision-making.
This has included consultation, developing new services, evaluation, funding, recruitment and selection, and addressing issues identified by young people.
The project uses non-traditional and creative ways to engage with children and young people and particularly those that others find hard to reach. This gives them the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the community and improves the way we as adults work with young people.
The project took the lead in developing the participation strategy that has been adopted by the Torbay Children’s Trust. This outlines the commitment of Children’s Services in Torbay to listen the views of young people and make a positive contribution to the improvement of services.
