Mini movers session at Sure Start Mellow Valley posed for The Children's Society

The Children’s Society 7 Day Response Service is a 6th Wave Sure Start local programme [link to www.surestart.gov.uk] (formerly Sure Start Mellow Valley). Approved in April 2003, it is one of eight local programmes in Leeds.

Sure Start local programmes are funded by Government to improve outcomes for children aged 0 to four and their families through supporting parents, increasing childcare availability and improving the health and social development of young children. These programmes focus on disadvantaged areas, where new and improved services and co-ordination help children to be ready for school and to achieve their full potential.

The Children’s Society 7 Day Response Service comprises three areas in Leeds: Little London and Woodhouse (inner city areas) and Meanwood, an inner area made up of a number of small council housing estates to the north of the city centre. Each area is characterised by smaller communities, many of whose members are transient or new to Leeds. We are expanding into the wider north-west wedge.

We have strong multi-agency links and are able to signpost families appropriately, supporting them in accessing any services we are unable to provide. For those families with complex needs, we offer intensive one-to-one support. There are more than 1,000 families registered with the programme.
