Sure Start Children’s Centres are Government funded initiatives that aim to improve the life chances of children aged 0 to five, and are central to the anti-poverty agenda. Children’s Centres are multi-agency partnerships that provide accessible early intervention services in the places where they are most needed.

We are leading two programmes in Bradford: the Gateway Children’s Centre in Ravenscliffe and Mortimer House Children’s Centre in Bradford Moor.

The Children’s Centres core offer in the 30% most disadvantaged areas is:
· Early years provision – integrated learning and childcare for children aged 0 to five years.
· Outreach – home visiting programme; sign posting other services
· Family support – support and advice on parenting, access to specialist services, activities to promote an understanding of child development, and to increase the involvement of fathers
· Child and family health services – antenatal advice and support for mothers and fathers, breast- feeding support, antenatal and post natal depression support, speech and language and other specialist support, smoking cessation, and support for healthy lifestyles
· Parental involvement – participation of parents at all levels of decision-making
.· Links with Jobcentre Plus – specialist support to parents/carers who wish to return to work.
· Other services – local needs of the community as identified through consultation.
