The STARS project works with children and young people aged three to 18 who are affected by parental substance use and need support. We aim to build on resilience factors and explore coping strategies.

The service focuses on early intervention, preventative and diversionary measures. The work takes place over six to eight sessions and is delivered using a creative approach, while remaining child-centred and outcome-focused. Children and young people are supported to build on their own resilience factors to maximise their safety, with information to make choices, to improve a healthy lifestyle and keep safe, so that they are able to enjoy and achieve a good childhood

STARS can offer one-to-one and group work in schools, family centres, at the project or in the community. We also organise a Children and Young People’s Forum. Referrals can be from anyone including self-referral if the young person is aged over 11 and able to self-consent.

The work our project workers do is flexible and solution focused.
