The Shared Care Project in Solihull has provided a service to disabled children and young people and their families for more than 20 years, in partnership with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council
Over the years the service has evolved from being solely a residential provision aimed at meeting family need to a child-focused, rights-led partnership with young people who use the service.
The project works towards empowering and enabling disabled young people to “speak up, speak out” about the issues that affect them, and includes the most profoundly disabled who use different methods of communication.
At this project, disabled young people control their environment to make it what they want it to be, so they can be creative in expressing their views and communicate in their own way to get their message across.
We have a highly skilled team of professional workers in the field of disability. Some have specific skills, but all support and assist one another. They are a dynamic team who listen to what disabled children and young people have to say and empower them to speak out about issues that affect them. They encourage the young people to advocate for themselves and, where appropriate, advocate on their behalf.
