The PACT project upholds the rights of disabled children and young people through the provision of a wide-ranging programme of direct services, the delivery of high quality nationally recognised and accredited training and through our consultation service with disabled children and young people.
We believe that all children can communicate and through our accredited training programme, supported by the I’ll Go First toolkit and CD-Rom, we equip professionals who work directly with children and young people with communication impairments to have confidence, skills and knowledge.
PACT’s fully trained student volunteers support 60 disabled children and young people each year to engage in activities in their local communities, develop independence skills and raise self-esteem. We support disabled young people to achieve their full potential in the workplace and challenge employer’s perceptions of their abilities.
Working alongside the local authority, disabled young people have influenced how services and organisations need to change to meet the needs of disabled children and young people. They have undertaken award-winning disability equality audits of leisure services in York to ensure they comply with the Discrimination Act and are working in schools to support them with compliance of the Disability Equality Duty.
