The Leading Edge initiative is funded by the Big Lottery young people’s Fund to develop access to secondary education and to support the inclusion and achievement of young refugees.

The initiative is guided by a National Steering group of young refugees. It works in Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, London, Manchester, and Oxford in partnership with local schools, their stakeholders and with young people to provide a range of services including:

· Home work clubs and after-school support
· Peer welcome and orientation schemes
· Advocacy and information on schools admissions
· Whole school awareness-raising sessions
· Conflict resolution training
· Personal development and participative opportunities for young people
· Holiday activities
· Consultancy for schools and young carers projects.

The Leading Edge initiative also aims to highlight the needs of young carers who are refugees and to work with schools and local services to develop their capacity to support refugees with caring responsibilities.

From its direct experience of working with young people, Leading Edge will develop evidence-led policy solutions, showcase good practice and influence developments in education at local, regional and national levels that improve the opportunities and the experiences of young refugees and other young people in education.
