Lancashire Children’s Rights Service (LCRS) works with children and young people who are looked after or receiving leaving care support from Lancashire County Council. We particularly want to support disabled children and young people to access the services.
There are different parts of the service:
· Advocacy – ensuring they can express their views and get support if things are not going well for them
· Independent visitors – to befriend children and young people who have lost contact with their birth families. We ask for a commitment of two years from the volunteer
· Working with children and young people who go missing from care or home –staff offer them intensive support, find out the reasons why they run away and work with other agencies to look at strategies to reduce these incidents
· Looking Ahead Careers and Employability scheme (LACES) – young people 16 and over who are out of education, training or employment are helped to find a work placement and supported to get the best from it. The scheme helps to improve their life chances helps them to find secure educational or work placements for the future
· Participation – children and young people are encouraged to get involved in activities and events where they can give their views about policies and planning and influence decision-makers about future services.
