Embrace has been established to provide holistic support to young refugees and new migrants, aged five to 19, in South Yorkshire. It aims to improve the delivery of, and access to, child-centred or friendly services for young refugees and new migrants living in South Yorkshire.
The service offers one-one support, advice and advocacy to young refugees and new migrants on a range of issues that highlight the rights of children. These include access to support services, local orientation, legal advice, education and training, health and housing. The project staff have had specialist training in housing, advocacy, and education, and all advisers are registered to give legal advice up to Level 1 OISC. Where Embrace is unable to offer support it will refer the young person to appropriate service providers.
The project also runs recreational activities in the school holidays and out of school hours targeted at younger children, families and teenagers. These are generally free, or incur a nominal cost.
Embrace works in close partnership with voluntary organisations and consortia concerned with supporting refugees and new migrants, both on individual cases and to raise awareness and lobby on specific issues.
