Blackburn Young Refugees Programme is a volunteer scheme to support refugee and asylum-seeking children and young people and their families. Recruitment of volunteers comes through churches, faith and community groups, as well as through colleges, Job Centres and schools.

Our recruits tend to be people of principle who come from within the communities where refugee and asylum-seekers live. Their aim is to increase community understanding of the lives and struggles of these families in order to safeguard and protect the childhood of each child.

The Children's Society has 10 projects across the country that work with refugee and asylum-seeking children and young people and their families in other ways, including direct support; working with the homeless and working with those on the streets. There is a policy advisor and national strategy group to support all projects.

The volunteer work with children, young people and families includes community childminding schemes; independent visitor schemes and an anti-bullying team in schools. Our administration base is at The Children's Society Northern Regional Office in Whitefield, but we have a local desk at Wesley Hall.
