The Art Room works as a designated Sure Start Children’s Centre, providing a range of service to families on the Lakes Estate in Bletchley, Milton Keynes.
Funding is from Milton Keynes Council and Sure Start and we work in conjunction with health, education and a variety of other agencies and voluntary sector service providers to enable families to access a range of support and services under one roof. All activities are attached to the five outcomes of Every Child Matters, and by monitoring attendance figures we measure the success of our programme.
We receive some referrals from health and social care and we are able to offer rooms and resources for family support and contact visits. There are a number of hard-to-reach families that need additional support, and this is achieved by crucial outreach visits.
We are committed in providing a fully inclusive service to ensure that every family, regardless of background, race or ability feels valued, and is encouraged to enrich their relationships with their children. We listen to those using the centre, and use their views and experience to shape the project.
The centre is open from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday for 50 weeks a year, and we are now stretching our resources to offer courses in the evening and weekends.
