You are vitally important to our work

several teenagers

As a supporter of The Children's Society, you help us fight child abuse and neglect, and change laws and opinions that affect the most vulnerable young people in this country.

Your generosity allows us to deliver real change for children on a larger scale than ever.

To show you how important and inspiring your support is, we want to be in touch and share with you how you are changing young lives, and to see if there are other ways that you may like to support vulnerable children.  Whether you give your time, money or voice, together we are achieving real change for children across the country.

Our promise to you

1. We will keep you up-to-date in a way that works for you.

We will tell you about how you are helping to change children's lives so you know how your money is being spent.

If we call you, we will always start by asking if you are happy to take the call.

We will never sell your data or share it with other organisations. You can read our full privacy policy.

We will always make it easy for you to tell us how to contact you, including how to receive fewer communications or stop them completely. All you need to do is call our Supporter Care team on 0300 303 7000 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or send us an email.

We will remind you about how you can stop or reduce our communications on everything we send you.

2. Our staff and agencies who work on our behalf treat people sensitively

We are especially careful and sensitive when talking to people who appear to be vulnerable. We have put appropriate training in place to ensure our staff and agencies who work on our behalf act ethically.

We regularly check on this, and always take action if people acting on our behalf fail to meet our high standards.

3. We meet high fundraising and data protection standards

We strictly adhere to all fundraising and data protection legislation and guidelines.

We will always be committed to best practice in fundraising and marketing through active membership of the Institute of Fundraising, Fundraising Regulator (see our note below), Direct Marketing Association and the Public Fundraising Association. If any guidance changes, then so do we.

We regularly monitor the performance and behaviour of the agencies we work with to ensure the highest possible ethical and professional standards are upheld. This includes regularly checking the quality of phone calls from and to us.

Respectful, open, honest and accountable: Our Fundraising Regulator registration

In November 2016 we became registered members of the Fundraising Regulator, the organisation that holds the Code of Fundraising Practice for the UK. You can find the Fundraising Regulator’s logo on all pages on our website (it's at the bottom, in the footer) and our newly printed materials. We are also upholding the Fundraising Regulator's fundraising promise.

We were eager to secure this registration because the Fundraising Regulator aims to uphold the standards that we have since our founding in 1881. Those aims are to ensure that charitable fundraising is:

  • respectful
  • open
  • honest
  • accountable to the public
